The Department of Science and Technology through Southern Leyte Provincial S&T Director, Engr. Florita M. Santiago, pledged additional baking equipment and accessories for the Pamigsian Bakery, a livelihood project of Pamigsian Women’s Association in the far-flung barangay of Bontoc, Southern Leyte. She emphasized the importance of food-grade equipment in making products safe for human consumption.
In her message of support to PRLEC during the distribution of STEP toolkits by TESDA on March 29, 2021, Santiago was glad to announce the commitment of DOST to support the project initiated by DOLE, TESDA and LGU Bontoc. Aside from the additional equipment, the beneficiaries would also be provided with consultancy services such as Food Safety and Manufacturing Productivity Extension Program (MPEX).

“Brgy. Pamigsian will also receive STARBOOKs so that its children will be able to access various information such as livelihood videos,” Santiago added.
The event was also attended by Bontoc Municipal Mayor Jane Ruales and representatives from the Office of the Congressman and the College of Maasin. Pamigsian is a mountain barangay and an hour drive from the población. The rough road going to the barangay still poses a challenge to residents and visitors.
